Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup milk
- 3 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced (for decoration)
- 1 cup whipped cream (for frosting)
- Edible flowers (for decoration, optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans and smooth the tops.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Once cooled, place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of whipped cream on top, then add sliced strawberries.
- Place the second cake layer on top and frost the top and sides with the remaining whipped cream.
- Decorate with more sliced strawberries and edible flowers, if desired. Slice and serve to celebrate Mother’s Day!
Notes
- For a chocolate version, replace 1/2 cup of flour with cocoa powder.
- Make sure all ingredients are at room temperature for the best results.
- You can also add food coloring to the whipped cream for a fun, festive look.
